Spirit Treadmill Reviews and Purchasing Information

A US based company, Spirit Fitness has been making their top rated Spirit treadmills since the late 1980s. For the longest time you could only purchase a Spirit treadmill through an authorized dealer storefront but that has changed in the past year. But while you can buy a Spirit treadmill direct from the manufacturer you can often get a better price online through some of the larger fitness warehouses.

No matter where you get your Spirit treadmill you will likely be pleased. Spirit treadmills have been "best buy" ranked by Runner's World, Treadmill Doctor, Monster, and ePinions. In popularity, reputation, and price they are comparable to SmoothFitness' line of Smooth treadmills. Spirit treadmills tend to fall into the mid price range although their top of the range machines fall into the premium class.

As an example of their ratings, the Spirit 197 model performed well in stability, cushioning, noise level and prompt service. The warranty on a Spirit treadmill is typically good but not great. Most of their models have 3-5 year warranties on the motor and 3 years on the belt. This is slightly better than Reebok and ProForm but not as good as Smooth and True. But in their high end class of treadmill, the Spirit Treadmill comes with a blanket lifetime warranty -- all parts are covered for life. Labor is of course still charged as appropriate.

Since you will most likely purchase your Spirit treadmill through a reseller, check with them on the warranty and any service packages they may directly offer. Spirit treadmills are top of the line mid-price units and hold up well to use but as with all things mechanical they need maintenance periodically.

Spirit Treadmill Reviews

Net2Fitness.com has the most comprehensive lineup of Spirit treadmills we've found online at the most reasonable prices.

Spirit 188 Treadmill
The Spirit Treadmill 188 is their entry level folding unit. Pulse grips are standard and the unit is surprisingly light for it's sturdiness. The deck surface is not that large but it suitable for most joggers and runners. 10 year warranty on the motor and 2 years on the deck, electronics, and belt. A lifetime warranty on the frame. Don't be fooled by the low price, the 188 Spirit Treadmill is not a "budget treadmill".

Motor Size: 2.0 continuous duty
Running Surface: 51in x 18in
Maximum Speed: 10mph
Maximum Incline: 10%
Heart Rate: Yes
Folding: Yes

Spirit 198 Treadmill
The 198 Spirit Treadmill is identical to the 188 model except that this model treadmill has a power fold so no lifting is required. Lifting and folding the deck on a well constructed treadmill can be difficult for some so the power fold is a great feature to have in a Spirit treadmill.

Running Surface: 51in x 18in
Maximum Speed: 10mph
Maximum Incline: 10%
Heart Rate: Yes

Spirit 218 Treadmill
The 218 Spirit Treadmill has a larger motor and frame than the Spirit Treadmill 100 model and that gives is a little more power, incline, and weight. A larger deck makes running easier and the 218 still comes with pulse grips standard.

Maximum Incline: 10%

Spirit 228 Treadmill
The 228 Spirit Treadmill has the same features as the 218 Spirit Treadmill and adds a larger motor and heart rate control. From a price/value perspective, this Spirit treadmill has done very well in rankings and reviews.

Motor Size: 3.0 continuous duty
Running Surface: 55in x 20in
Maximum Speed: 10mph
Maximum Incline: 10%

Folding: Yes

Spirit 240 Treadmill
The Spirit Treadmill 240 model has been updated for 2004. There is a wider 20 inch deck, a longer walking surface, and a better warranty (10 years on the motor, 3 on electronics and deck and belt). Like other Spirit Treadmills, the 240 is whisper quiet and features a shock absorbing deck. It's price is a little higher than comparable units but you are paying for Spirits perennial ranking and quality. The only downer? No heart rate monitor or control.

Motor Size: 2.0 continuous duty
Running Surface: 54in x 20in
Maximum Speed: 10mph
Maximum Incline: 15%

Spirit 245 Treadmill
Add a 2.5 HP motor to the Spirit Treadmill 240 and you get the newly updated 245. This is a commercial quality treadmill available for under $2000 that should satisfy runners looking for quiet, stable operation. The 245 treadmill has recently been retired by Spirit so is only available from in-stock with a distributor.
